Art of the Day: Eddie and Buck (9-1-1)

Artwork: Bachelor Party Buddie by Harri (harrirats)

I love this artwork. Because what really happened between Buck and Eddie at that bachelor party that Buck threw for Chimney? There are several ongoing fan theories as to what happend. I guess only Buck and Eddie know but something definitely happened. Perhaps they drank a little too much and they don't remember which would have been an interesting storyline. Too bad the Showrunner and writers just didn't seem to want to answer the unspoken question. Anyway, this artwork is very lovely and goes oh so perfectly with all the fan theories.

As a way to support artists, I try to post links to their stores if they have one. You can not only buy this artwork but also other art from the artist at: Harri.

Most Memorable Scene: Eddie interrupting Buck flirting with Taylor (9-1-1)

It's never not funny seeing this Buck and Eddie scene from the 9-1-1 episode Dosed (season 2 episode 6). Because why was it as soon as Buck was all smiley and flirty with TV reporter Taylor Kelly, Eddie just had to interrupt that moment. It's funny because Eddie was working out over at the gym area in the fire station, but the moment Buck was flirty with Taylor, he just had to do something.

I totally didn't buy him asking about her health and then feeling the need to walk over there. Earlier in the episode, the firefighters had rescued Taylor from an emergency but she was fine with no injuries which Eddie knew. Yet, at that moment, Eddie subconsciously had to say something to try to break up the moment. So, he made it seemed as if he was concerned about her health, like yeah right, Eddie. Whether he realized it or not, he was jealous.

Which is why it's so funny, because he felt no need to interrupt when Taylor was talking to Hen, Chimney and Bobby. This reminds me of when Eddie started hanging out with Tommy in the episode Buck, Bothered and Bewildered (season 7 episode 4) and Buck was so jealous. Buck, however also felt the need to interrupt the moment, with an unfortunate result. Buck accidentally (or intentionally) hurt Eddie by pushing him while they were playing basketball. It left Eddie with a sprained ankle. It's still disappointing that the writers didn't show Buck apologizing to Eddie onscreen. Buck was jealous and angry and lashed out at Eddie. Which is why an on screen appology should have been shown. The Showrunner and writers always avoiding showing important moments on screen continues to be one of the issues I have with this show.

Anyway, Eddie and Buck really need to deal with their jealousy issues and finally tell each other how they feel.

Happy Father's Day, Eddie Diaz!

Unlike the last Father's Day, where the seventh season finale left Eddie and his son Christopher separated when Chris went with his grandparents back to El Paso, TX following the Kim (Shannon Diaz lookalike) situation. This Father's Day, they are happy and reunited and celebrating the day. I hope Eddie is showered with plenty of love and gifts from his son.

And like with last year I thought Buck would try his best to cheer up Eddie with Chris being gone. I figure this time, Buck would be over at Eddie's helping Chris cook a special Father's Day breakfast for Eddie. And then all three would enjoy a wonderful relaxing morning eating breakfast and then having fun the rest of the day.

Happy Father's Day, Eddie Diaz!

Quote: Eddie and Buck (9-1-1 season 8)

Eddie: Thanks for helping me finish packing. Chris is gonna be psyched you found his favorite shirt. He's been looking for it ever since he got to El Paso.

Buck: Well, you make sure he knows I'm the one who found it.

Eddie: Right. Credit where credit's due. Thanks for helping me get back to him.

Buck: Uh, yeah, of course. Don't sweat it.

Eddie: I know this whole thing between us has been messy and hard, and both of us could have handled it a little bit better. But I hope you know, you do matter to me.

Buck: I know.

~ Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and Evan "Buck" Buckley, 9-1-1 season 8 episode 10: Voices

It's always interesting how the writers for 9-1-1 choose to write the dialogue for Buck and Eddie because this scene conveys so much more than friendship. For these two, there is always this underlying sense of romance but they are not ready to deal with that just yet. So instead they just share meaningful looks and smiles. I hope one day the writers will actually let them explore their feelings and realize that they are more than just friendship.

Art of the Day: Buck and Eddie (Pride Month)

Artwork: Buck and Eddie - Pride Month by Nate (saucerfulofsins)

It's been a little over a month since the last time I posted anything. After that 9-1-1 season 8 finale and last half of the season in general (still disappointed about Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash being killed off), I needed to take a little break from show. But now I'm back to posting and my first post is to celebrate Pride Month. This artwork by Nate (saucerfulofsins) is so cute I had to post it.

So not only Happy Pride Month to Evan "Buck" Buckley and Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz but also to all my readers who are celebrating. And that includes anyone who is out and proud (which includes Buck) as well as anyone who is: closeted, questioning, afraid to come out, struggling with repression, don't really know what label you want to use, or prefer to be unlabeled, etc. (which includes Eddie).

Happy Pride Month!

Quote: Buck, Eddie and Bobby (9-1-1 season 5)

Buck: So you ran from an alpaca?

Bobby: Two alpacas, and there was no running.

Eddie and Buck sarcastically nodding their heads.

Bobby: Just get in the truck.

Eddie and Buck smiling and looking at each other.

~ Evan "Buck" Buckley, Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and Robert "Bobby" Nash, 9-1-1 season 5 episode 2: Desperate Times

I love this scene, it's so funny how Eddie and Buck are making fun of Bobby. Scenes like this really make me miss Bobby and since he was killed off for no real reason, it's disappointing that we'll never get any more scenes with him like this.

Video: Buck's surprise sitcom reveal of Eddie in the 9-1-1 episode The Last Alarm

This video is why I love fans because of this fan edit by Sofia (offscreeneddie) is fantastic. The video is an edit for a scene from the 9-1-1 episode The Last Alarm (season 8 episode 16). According to Sofia, this video was "based on a text post I saw about Eddie being reintroduced like they were on a sitcom with a live audience".

It's true because when I saw that scene it felt like Eddie's appearance was showcased as if he was a surprise guest star on a sitcom. With the audience clapping and cheering for this reveal. I think Sofia did a really good job with this. Because not only where the clapping and cheering added in but also the laughs for Ravi's comment and joke about not being a probie anymore to the sad aws when Eddie said "he should have been there". And not to mention the little dramatic music at the end when Buck spoke to Eddie and they shared a quick look.

This really is a good edit that does feel like a scene from a sitcom.

Art of the Day: Buck and Eddie (9-1-1)

Artwork: Buck and Eddie by el (el-66)

I love how these two don't seem to shy away from being in each other's personal space. I hope one day Buck and Eddie will get the chance to be together. It truly makes no sense that the 9-1-1 writers would rather put them in relationships with other people than with each other. If I created a show and realized two of the actors and their characters had amazing chemistry I would have figured out a way to get them together. Instead of what the Showrunner and writers are currently doing which is wasting it.

Fandom Thoughts: Eddie Diaz fan edit video

The eighth season of 9-1-1 started out so well with the whimsical beenado and the slightly dramatic plane emergency. But then the Showrunner and writers started wasting time on the Hotshots storyline, evil Fire Captain Vincent Gerrard, delaying or pushing to the side Edmundo "Eddie" and Christopher Diaz's storyline, etc. Then the season got absolutely worse with the contagion storyline followed by the showrunner deciding to kill off Fire Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash for nothing more than shock value.

And to make it even more disappointing Eddie wasn't even included in that contagion storyline and he was barely in the follow up episode for Bobby's lackluster funeral. Both Peter Krause and his character Bobby deserved better than this terrible storyline. As for Eddie and Christopher, here's hoping they will have more screen time in the last two episodes of the season. Also, why is Eddie being treated like a guest or recurring character instead of the main character that he is?

Which is why as soon as I saw this amazing fan edit video by wannagoforthetitle for Eddie, I had to post it. Eddie being sidelined this season is so disappointing but this video really highlights what makes him such an interesting character. Too bad for Ryan Guzman most of his character Eddie's story this season has been happening off screen.

Video: Eddie being the center of Buck's attention (9-1-1)

I just wonder how often Buck is just randomly thinking of Eddie? Especially since (at least for now) Eddie is still in El Paso, Texas with his son Christopher. I wish the show's writers had brought Eddie and Chris back to Los Angeles before they decided to kill off Fire Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash. So that now, Eddie will return but it will be associated with guilt of him not being there while Bobby died. Not to bring it down too much, here is a fun fan edit video by nari that has Eddie being the center of Buck's attention.

I can't wait for these two to finally get together.

Quote: Buck and Eddie (9-1-1 season 5)

Buck: Listen, uh, as-as someone who also comes from a screwed-up family...

Eddie: My family isn't screwed up. Just my dad, okay? Plan is get in, get out without any drama. Say congratulations, have some cake and...Call it a day.

Buck: And what about when he starts to get in there and push your buttons?

Eddie: There's a hotel 20 minutes away, three-and-a-half stars. Chris is really gonna like the pool.

Most Memorable Scene: Eddie talking to Chris at the Chess Tournament

I love this scene of Eddie going to his son Christopher's chess tournament in the 9-1-1 episode Invisible (season 8 episode 13). Because prior to that, wanting to go to the tournament was on his mind. However, he didn't think he should go after talking to his mother Helena in the grocery store parking lot. And not to mention his mom and his dad Ramon have pushed Eddie to the sidelines making him feel like he's an observer or outsider to raising his own son. And because Eddie was still holding on to that guilt (about the Kim situation which still hasn't been dealt with) he didn't think he should fight for his son. Especially since he thought or believed Chris was thriving and doing really well with his grandparents.

Which is why I'm glad Eddie did go to the chess tournament because he found out the truth. Although Eddie believed his son was doing really well with his grandparents, he found out how stressed Chris was over playing chess and that he didn't like playing it. But what makes the situation so sad is that Chris went along with playing chess despite not enjoy playing it. All so he wouldn't disappoint his grandparents. They made him feel like he couldn't go to them and tell them he didn't like chess. I'm so happy that Eddie went because he would have continued to believe that his son was doing better without him which is so not the truth.

Now that Eddie and Chris have reconciled and Chris will be moving back in with Eddie, I hope this El Paso storyline will finally start to be wrapped up. I can't believe the Showrunner and writers thought it was a good idea to isolate Eddie by keeping him in Texas which resulted in him not being there for the big contagion emergency. Especially since Eddie is a former military medic who is familiar contagions. I don't know, the show and the 118 feels so off when any of the member of the team is not there and most especially during a big emergency like this. Anyway, I'm happy Eddie and Chris have made up and hopefully will be figuring out a way to move back to Los Angeles.

Most Memorable Scene: Eddie asking Buck "Are You Hurt?" (9-1-1 season 4)

I was thinking about this scene (below) from the 9-1-1 episode Survivors (season 4 episode 14) when Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz who had been shot asked Evan "Buck" Buckley if he was hurt. When I think back to the tragedy of Eddie being shot (yet thankfully surviving), this moment should have led to Eddie and Buck getting together. I just really want to see Buck and Eddie get to have the love, happiness and romance that the other three main relationships (Henrietta "Hen" and Dr. Karen Wilson, Athena Grant and Robert "Bobby" Nash and Howard "Chimney" and Maddie Han) have had over the years.

For instance, in the first season of 9-1-1, Hen and Karen were already married and Athena and Bobby got together at the end of the season. And in the second season, Chimney and Maddie got together which now leaves Buck and Eddie. Those two have suffered through seasons of a revolving door of relationships that never work out. Meanwhile, they have an amazing chemistry and connection with each other. This show will be going into a ninth season and the Showrunner and writers continue to avoid putting Eddie and Buck together. It's just disappointing when they are everything the other is searching for in a romantic partner.
