Quote: Buck, Eddie and Bobby (9-1-1 season 5)

Buck: So you ran from an alpaca?

Bobby: Two alpacas, and there was no running.

Eddie and Buck sarcastically nodding their heads.

Bobby: Just get in the truck.

Eddie and Buck smiling and looking at each other.

~ Evan "Buck" Buckley, Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and Robert "Bobby" Nash, 9-1-1 season 5 episode 2: Desperate Times

I love this scene, it's so funny how Eddie and Buck are making fun of Bobby. Scenes like this really make me miss Bobby and since he was killed off for no real reason, it's disappointing that we'll never get any more scenes with him like this.

Quote: Buck and Eddie (9-1-1 season 5)

Buck: Listen, uh, as-as someone who also comes from a screwed-up family...

Eddie: My family isn't screwed up. Just my dad, okay? Plan is get in, get out without any drama. Say congratulations, have some cake and...Call it a day.

Buck: And what about when he starts to get in there and push your buttons?

Eddie: There's a hotel 20 minutes away, three-and-a-half stars. Chris is really gonna like the pool.

Fandom Thoughts: Buck and Eddie #4: Buck, Eddie and Beer (9-1-1)

Whether Buck and Eddie are sitting down having a heart-to-heart of deep poignant conversations about being there for each other, Buck not knowing his sister Maddie the way the Chimney might know her or Buck's coming out to Eddie. Or fun humorous ones like Eddie and Buck talking about potential powers Buck may have got from being struck by lighting. No matter the conversation, beer seems to be their choice of drink. With the way their story is going, I wouldn't be surprised if they have a beer during their first date.

Quote: Edmundo Diaz and Evan Buckley (+ My thoughts on Eddie's life)

Eddie: Clive and Toni were definitely a thing. And I mean like, big time, long-lost-love kind of thing. My abuela would eat this up. She loves a good telenovela.

Buck: Oh, 'cause, uh, 'cause you don't? Come on, I know you watch 'em with Christopher.

Eddie: That's how we practice our Spanish.

Buck: Uh-huh.

~ Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and Evan "Buck" Buckley, 9-1-1 season 5 episode 9: Past is Prologue

So, Eddie claims he only watches telenovelas so him and his son Christopher can pratice their Spanish. Sure Eddie, you love watching those dramas just as much as your grandmother. What I found interesting is that in 9-1-1's seventh season his life indavertently turned into a telenovela.

Let's see, from moving too fast in his new relationship with his girlfriend Marisol by asking her to move in. To him being spooked after finding out she used to be a Nun which ended up leading to him later asking her to move out. To Eddie going wild with Buck during their friend Howard "Chimney" Han's bachelor party. To him meeting Kim who is a lookalike of his dead wife Shannon which made him want to spend more time with her despite him still being in a relationship with Marisol. The whole Kim situation would eventually lead to Marisol and Chris seeing him with Kim. And to make matters worse, Kim (who is a former actress) had decided to dress up or cosplay as Shannon in a strange and weird way to give Eddie closure over Shannon. However, this all lead to the dramatic conclusion of his relationship with Marisol ending and his son Christopher leaving with his grandparents to go back to El Paso, TX.

So, Eddie's life is currently a mess. Hopefully in the upcoming eighth season, after he gets his life back in order, perhaps next time, maybe he should stick to only watching telenovelas instead of turning his life into one.

Most Memorable Scene: Buck and Eddie staring at each other in the 9-1-1 episode "Panic"

A total blink-and-you-miss-it scene is when Evan "Buck" Buckley and Edmnudo "Eddie" Diaz were staring at each other in the 9-1-1 episode Panic (season 5 episode 1). This little moment happened while they were having a conversation around the pool table with their friends and co-workers Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash, Henrietta "Hen" Wilson and Howard "Chimney" Han. They were talking about Eddie and his son Christopher going to Eddie's girlfriend Dr. Ana Flores' sister's baby's christening. And during that discussion Buck was being so annoying and passive-aggressive about Eddie going. He was the main one grilling Eddie throughout the discussion.

It felt like he was trying to push Eddie into saying that going to the christening meant that his relationship with Ana was serious. Buck even said "So, it's pretty serious, then" which Eddie deflected while acting like he didn't understand what Buck was talking about. Which Buck followed with "Well, you're meeting her parents". Eddie answered by making it seem like it wasn't a big deal since him and Chris were also going to be meeting the rest of Ana's family which includes her tíos, tías and primos. Again, Buck was the main one grilling Eddie and it got to the point that Hen said "It's not like it's Ana and Eddie's baby, Buck".

Despite Eddie trying to brush off the status of his relationship with Ana, whether he wanted to believe it or not meeting his girlfriend's family was a pretty big deal. Even Chimney said going to the christening sound serious. It's no doubt Eddie liked Ana but he was avoiding thinking about how serious their relationship might be. None of this explains why Buck was having such a problem with the possibility that Eddie's relationship with Ana was becoming serious. Why was it bothering him? And why was Eddie so quick to deflect and downplay the seriousness of his relationship with Ana?

Anyway, the point of this post was the blink-and-you-miss-it moment of Buck and Eddie staring at each other. Because why was this scene there? What was the point of that moment being included? Was it just a quick moment of Eddie and Buck staring at each other or did it mean something more? Especially since while they were staring, it was during when they were all talking about Eddie and Chris going to the christening and Eddie and Ana's relationship. This blink-and-you-miss-it scene makes me think of the scene from in the episode Ashes, Ashes (season 7 episode 9) when the camera panned over to Eddie while Buck was getting his award. Because why was that scene there? Is there a significance to showing Eddie while Buck received his award?

When I think about both scenes, they were quick moments but they sure do make you question why they were there in the first place. I guess, only time will tell.

Photo: Oliver Stark (9-1-1 season 5 behind the scenes)

I like random, funny or interesting behind the scene pictures that don't give away too much. Here's a funny picture of actor Oliver Stark with the 9-1-1 Make Up Artist Julie Murray behind the scenes of the episode Brawl in Cell Block 9-1-1 (season 5 episode 6). It's funny because they're stiff and posed like mannequins while calling it casual. It just seems like a fun moment on set.

Quote: Eddie and Buck (9-1-1)

Buck: I just, I wish I could...

Eddie: Fix it?

Buck: Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm the guy who always wants to fix everything.

Eddie: Hey, it comes in handy when you have a bunch of holes in your wall.

~ Evan "Buck" Buckley and Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz, 9-1-1 season 5 episode 18: Starting Over

I love how Eddie and Buck are always there for each other. Through the good and the bad, they continue to stick to their word of always having each other's back. During the fifth season, Eddie was dealing with some mental health issues and ended up spiraling and having a break down. And Buck was there for him. So, between going to therapy and having support from Buck, Eddie was in the process of dealing with the issues he had with survivor's guilt in association to his time being in the Army during a time of war.

Buck and Eddie: Breaking Up and They Haven't Even Dated

It's been noted by a lot of us 9-1-1 fans how much the writers like to use romantic or relationship coded language for Eddie and Buck scenes. For instance, why in both of these scenes from episodes Rage (season 3 episode 5) and Outside Looking In (season 5 episode 11) does it feel like these conversations are after they broke up. It's just so funny because they have had two post break up conversations and they have yet to date or be in a relationship.

In Rage, they were both angry due to the lawsuit Buck had filed which made it so that neither one could have contact with each other. While in Outside Looking In, it was more like a quiet resignation or acceptance that what they had was over. It really makes me wonder why would the writers give them these words? And why would they have the actors react in this way for these scenes? Everything about these scenes holds a lot of subtext that's for sure. If these two are supposed to be only friends then why use this type of break up language for them?
