Buck: Why, man? Come on.
Eddie: Because it's morning and you have things to do.
Buck: No, I really don't.
Eddie: You need to get out of this house and take a walk around the block and get some fresh air.
Buck: Why? What's the point?
Eddie: Well, the point is, your life isn't over just because you're not a firefighter.
Buck: Says the firefighter.
Eddie: You know, that blood clot could've almost killed you. But it didn't. You have your whole life ahead of you, so why don't you just take it as a win and stop feeling sorry for yourself?
~ Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and Evan "Buck" Buckley, 9-1-1 season 3 episode 1: Kids Today
I love this scene from the 9-1-1 episode Kids Today, because after Buck had quit his job (due to medical reasons and some unknowingly misguided interference by Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash), he had been down and depressed and hiding away in his apartment. So Eddie went over to see Buck to give him some much needed good advice and motivation. It's understandable why Buck was wallowing because up until that point, his whole life and identity was being a firefighter. So after he quit, he didn't know what to do with his life. Which is why I love what Eddie said "Why don't you just take it as a win and stop feeling sorry for yourself." Buck could have died from those multiple blood clots but he didn't.
Eddie was concerned and wanted to help get Buck to see that his life was more than just a job. And to add to the good advice, he left his pride and joy, his son Christopher with Buck to help lift his spirits and to get him out of his dreary existence and his apartment. Yeah, what happened after with Buck and Chris being caught in a tsunami wasn't great but Buck did learn a valuable lesson about life and overcoming difficult moments.
