Video: Eddie and Christopher Diaz (9-1-1 season 7 deleted scene)

I know scenes are cut for time and other reasons but why was this scene of Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and his son Christopher cut from the 9-1-1 episode Ashes, Ashes (season 7 episode 9). This scene adds so much more to Eddie and Chris' story. And the story Eddie is telling Chris about how he met his late wife Shannon (Chris's mom) at the lake also connects to Eddie and Shannon's look-a-like Kim.

In Ashes, Ashes, Eddie went out on lake/boating date with Kim. And just like in his story about Shannon, Kim did all the talking while he mainly listened. Not so surprisingly, Eddie also does the same thing with Evan "Buck" Buckley who is also a very talkative person. Anyway, this deleted scene really added a lot to the story because it also explains the conversation Eddie had with Buck near the end of the season finale episode We All Fall Down. Eddie said that his parents took Christopher to the lake as well as saying that Christopher does love the lake.

This deleted scene could also explain why Christopher after seeing Kim contacted his grandparents Ramon and Helena Diaz and why he was so adamant about going back to Texas. Perhaps, he not only wanted leave but also to go back to the lake to be near his mom. This time away will give him time to sort and understand his anger and emotions about his dad and mom and the look-a-like Kim.

All the connection and additional information aside, I love this deleted scene because it shows how much Eddie loves his son. And how he helped Chris deal with his first heartbreak by comforting him and letting Chris know that he will be okay and that he will find that special someone. Total side note, I'm really surprised Penny stayed with Chris this long after she found out he was seeing other girls back in the seventh season premiere episode Abandon Ships. I love how adorable and silly and affectionate both Eddie and Chris are in this scene and it emphasizes how close the father and son are. Which makes the scene of Chris leaving in the season finale, hurt even more because they went from this to Chris being so mad at his father he wanted to leave.

I'm sure Eddie and Chris will fix their fractured relationship in the eighth season. I just hope the writers will write a really good scene of them reconciling and reconnecting. And that Chris understands that Eddie never meant to hurt him and that Eddie understands why seeing Kim hurt Chris.
