Buck and Eddie and the Five Love Languages (9-1-1)

The Five Love Languages are considered the five different ways that people connect and express their love within their relationship. And Evan "Buck" Buckley and Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz exhibit each of these Five Love Languages which are described as:

1. Words of Affirmations: Expressing your love with words, spoken and written such as: encouragement, love letters, compliments, praise, quotes, flirting, playful teasing, etc. Eddie and Buck both use Words of Affirmation to be supportive, encouraging and understanding towards each other. While also at time their conversations can be a little flirty. For instance, in the episode Fallout (season 3 episode 9) Buck in a very flirty way said to Eddie, "You want to for the title?" He could have easily said that without making it flirty. And Eddie's nonverbal reaction afterwards was also very telling.

2. Physical Touch: Expressing your love and affection by physically interacting such as: hugs, holding hands, soft and caressing touches, massages, cuddles, dancing together, etc. Buck and Eddie are always very near each other as well as finding ways to connect physically from a hand on a shoulder to hugs to bumping into each other as they walk. Physical Touch is something they both seem to thrive on.

3. Receiving Gifts: This love language isn't about buying expensive gifts, it's about expressing your love by giving your significant other thoughtful gifts that could be bought or made. From Buck prank gifting Eddie a luxury smart coffee and espresso maker (because he knew Eddie wanted one) to Eddie gifting Buck the ultimate gift, willing his son Christopher to Buck (because he knows that Buck would love Christopher just as Eddie would).

4. Quality Time: Is about spending time together preferably by being present and giving them your full undivided attention. Eddie and Buck spend a lot of quality time together, from quiet conversations to partying the night away, they continue to be present and in the moment with each other.

5. Acts of Service: From chores to special projects, these are things you willingly do for your partner to show how much you care. There are so examples of both Buck and Eddie performing Acts of Service. Fore instance: Eddie bringing over his son Christopher to help boost Buck's spirits, cooking dinner for each other, Buck helping plan a surprise Christmas party at the firehouse for all the firefighters but also so that Eddie could celebrate the holiday with his son.

It's clear that Eddie and Buck love each other and use the Five Love Languages to strengthen their relationship (which at the moment is still not canon). I always found it interesting that Buck and Eddie never seem to connect with any of their love interests the way they do with each other. They understand each other and know exactly what the other needs be it Words of Affirmation to Acts of Service. They are partners in every sense of the word which is why so many of us fans continue to hope that they will eventually go canon.
