Quote: Edmundo Diaz and Evan Buckley (9-1-1)

Eddie: So... that was a bold move.

Buck: Yeah, yeah, I know. "What were you thinking, Buck?" I already got an earful from Athena.

Eddie: Oh, no, I know what you were thinking. I got sisters, too. Still not sure how you thought you were getting away with it, though.

Buck: I wasn't worried about that. It's, like, police have all these rules, you know? Rules that are gonna get Maddie killed. But-but I'm a civilian. Those rules, they don't apply to me, right?

Eddie: Then why are you in hospital jail?

Buck: I told Maddie... I said that she didn't need to keep on running, that she could start over here, that she would be safe. That I would keep her safe.

Eddie: This isn't your fault. What if she had kept running? You think he wouldn't have found her? Only then, she'd be alone.

Buck: She's alone now, with him.

~ Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz and Evan "Buck" Buckley, 9-1-1 season 2 episode 13: Fight or Flight

In their discussion, I think Eddie was right when he said "What if she had kept running? You think he wouldn't have found her? Only then, she'd be alone." Because although Buck's older sister Maddie Buckley might be alone with her estranged and abusive husband Doug Kendall. The difference is they at least knew she was missing and they were doing everything they could to find her. Doug abducted Maddie on what would have been her first date with Howard "Chimney" Han. And not to mention he severely stabbed Chimney which nearly killed him.

As terrifying as it is that Maddie was abducted, it would have been so much worse if no one knew. If she had left Los Angeles like she had planned to do at the end of the second season premiere episode Under Pressure. She would have been alone on the road somewhere or in some random city or town when Doug had tracked her down and found her. Yet again, the difference is that Buck would never have know that his big sister was missing. I doubt she would have had enough time to contact him let alone the police. And sadly, Buck probably only would have been notified by the police if they somehow found her dead in whatever place Doug took her to. That is if Doug didn't get rid of her body which meant no one would have ever know she was missing.

So, in this situation, it was better that they knew she was abducted. Because they did eventually find her, a little worse for wear but they found her.
