Video: Buck and Eddie: The Only Exception (9-1-1)

Chemistry is a very tricky thing because you can't fake or duplicate it. Sometimes the characters (and the actors) have it or they don't. And 9-1-1's Evan "Buck" Buckley and Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz definitely have it. That's for sure. They are just so fascinating to watch. It's so amazing how they simply understand and care for each other. Their chemistry doesn't feel forced or so boring you can't wait for them to leave the screen.

Something that I continue to find interesting is that every romantic relationship Eddie and Buck have with other characters always pales in comparison to what they have with each other. They are, as the Paramore song used in this fan edit, The Only Exception. I just wonder why the writers continue to overlook their amazing chemistry in favor of keeping them in boring relationships with other characters?

I wonder if the Showrunner and writers even realize or understand what they have at their disposal? Do they not realize chemistry such as Eddie and Buck's is something truly special? Their connection and bond is so magnetic, there is always some invisible string pulling them towards each other. I do hope that behind the scenes, the Showrunner and writers are actually figuring out a way to put Buck and Eddie together. Their chemistry is too good to waste. I really feel like there is no other romantic ending that would be as satisfying to their story if they don't end up together.

Okay, not to make this any longer but this edit by oneawkwardcookie is so beautiful. It highlights some of the issues that shaped them in the past and why it factors into their romantic lives. Due to his parents, Buck has abandonment issues which is why he will latch on to any love interests who reject him and then he gives them a second chance. Then will rashly pursue relationships with these love interests. And in the long run these relationships are never good for him. Meanwhile, Eddie's issues are from his parents and his late wife making him feel like he was never good enough. So, he will settle for any love interests no matter how wrong they are for him. Especially if he thinks the relationships will be an added benefit for his son.

Yet those issues never factor into Eddie and Buck's relationship with each other. They never wrongly pursue or settle, they actively work on building their wonderful connection and bond with each other. As well as with Eddie's son Christopher. They trust each other completely as well as being supportive without feeling like there is some catch to it. From the good and bad to ups and downs, their connection, chemistry and love truly make them perfect for each other.
